I am so excited to finally have a laser welder for the workshop. This is something I have been wanting for a few years now and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
Welding is actually something I am keen to keep learning and getting better at. I did an evening welding course at the local college from January to May and played about with welding steel as I have just always wanted to learn. The smaller scale laser welding is something I’ve actually outsourced for a few years as it’s really great for cold joining where you don’t want to heat up the piece or are worried about gemstones. I got to try a laser welder in June and just knew this was something I wanted to add to the workshop. So I applied for a grant from my local council causeway coast and glens and was lucky enough to receive some funding towards. So far I’ve just set it up, calibrated it and played about with some old pieces of jewellery but I’ve got lots of exciting ideas that I can’t wait to get making with it.
Thanks to Freeform fabrication who I purchased the laser welder from and have been very helpful with set up and questions so far.
Thanks also to causeway coast and glens and DAERA for the grant funding.
